It could very well be a reference to the Gulf of Lhûn/Lune in Lord Of The Rings (another nod to Tolkien), or the runic alphabet, or even the French word for "moon".
But it's true that "rené" (which literally means "born again" in French) makes perfect sense seeing as one of Lune's techniques is called "reincarnation"

Well i believe I saw written lune on some official pictures of the prototype dis play during all the tradeshows...
Ohhhhh you re right for balron, I just checked and apparently the créature exists in this written form... I thought it was a mistake of mispelling with the final letter... I Also had in mind lord of the rings ans that fièry créature that looked a lot like him, with wings and a whippppp lol

Le Balron et le Balrog sont essentiellement la même créature, hein.
Ou plus exactement, les créateurs de la saga Ultima ont bêtement récupéré le Balrog inventé par Tolkien et l'ont simplement renommé Balron.
Mais on retrouve bien la grande créature ailée humanoïde qui tient un fouet dans la main droite et une épée dans la gauche, telle que décrite dans TLOTR.
Quant à René, je maintiens que ce n'est qu'une des traductions possibles. Même si "officielle" entre gros guillemets, connaissant les difficultés rencontrées par les Japonais pour écrire/transcrire des noms en alphabet latin.
Si on va par là, "Tramy" aussi c'est officiel, alors que son nom est bel et bien écrit "Ptolemy" dans le tome 19 du manga, tout aussi officiel.

The developpers of the Ultima saga just took the creature invented by Tolkien and renamed it Balron instead, yet they kept its characteristic features: a a giant winged humanoid creature holding a whip in its right hand and wielding a sword in its left hand.
As for René, I'll say it again: it's only one of the many possible translations. Lune or Rune are valid as well.
René might be "official" (although it depends on the sources), but it's a well-known fact that the Japanese suck at writing words and names in Latin alphabet.
As a case in point, Tramy is the "official" name of the Sagitta Saint, yet in the manga his name is officialy spelled "Ptolemy". That goes to show....
